WANTED! A Good Night's Sleep

When we adopted our four older children we always joked about how nice it was that they were already potty trained and slept through the night. Now with our two little ones we don't have that luxury. Lucas used to be an excellent sleeper. He was sleeping in a toddler bed at 15 months and would just get in bed and go to sleep at night and for naps too. In December during Christmas break this all changed. I think it was a combination of being off schedule and the new baby. He does not want to go to sleep and I messed things up by letting him sleep with me. It was easier for me to do this because I got more sleep with him in bed with me. Now I have to sit by his bed until he falls asleep. But he will wake up in the middle of the night and want to get in bed with me. He calls it "Ma Nie". I have the choice of either taking him back to bed and sitting there until he falls asleep or letting him get in bed with me. I usually just let him get in bed with me because I am too tired and I know that Jackson will be waking me up soon. Lucas is also refusing to take a nap. He often gets cranky in the late afternoon and sometimes falls asleep in strange places, like the dinner table. Sometimes I time my errands so that he will fall asleep in the car on the way home. Oh well ,he does go sleep faster at night without a nap and that means less time to sit by his bed.
Jackson has also decided that he likes mommy to have less sleep then she needs. When he was 2 months he pretty much slept through the night. I was swaddling him and had white noise playing in his room. Those two things combined were magic. Well now he is to big and mobile to be swaddled an he wakes up at least 3 times in the night. I messed up again and I was just feeding him each time he woke up. Again because it was just easier. Well now I am playing mean mom and trying to let him cry it out for the middle feeding. Last night he cried for more then 2 hours and I gave in. During that time I went in his room every 20 minutes or so to offer him his pacifier or blanket. Then I gave him is bottle. I was hoping that this would work better then it is. I waited until the kids were on spring break so that when Jackson woke them up it would be okay because they could sleep in. We only have 4 more days so we will see if it works. I am not really sure what else to do but I do know that eventually I will get that good night's sleep.

I love the picture of Lucus at the dinner table asleep with food in his hand that is so something Elizabeth would do. In fact today she woke up at 5:30 and started falling asleep on the couch around 4 and I keep waking her up so she will go to bed tonight!

Good luck! You think with 7 kids and 16 yrs to figure it out I would have a childless bed, I am not so lucky. I know what they say works and I have tried and it works eventually, in a "perfect world". Reality is that I am just to tired to be the persistant one. When I do try I end up asleep on their bed, floor or half on half off. At least I don't have a stiff neck when they are in my bed. Out of 6 only 2 started and stayed in their beds all night.80% of mornings I find Neal &/or Katrina in my bed, and any more I never knew they climb in. Either I am too tire or they are just really sneaky, probably both.[At least I don't find Alex in my bed anymore:)] One can only dream of that perfect nights sleep.
Miss you!!!!
